Streamyx VS Broadband

Basically streamyx is used at a place where the local phone line is available. Its using ADSL modem. In Malaysia, you can subcribe streamyx broadband connection with or without purchase the modem. Therefore, it is recommended that you buy the ADSL modem yourself and subscribe the package online to save cost.

For streamyx, you are required to have a LAN (Local Area Network) interface at your PC or laptop and a local phone line. It can be conveniently used to router the connection, so that it can be share by others within a distance. It all depend on the type of modem we using.

Moreover, streamyx provides a stable and constant connection speed. There is another benefit of using streamyx which is you can use bit torrent (BT). While by using Celcom broadband you are prohibited by the service provider from using BT which will slow down the speed.

While for broadband in Malaysia, there will be service providers like Celcom, Maxis and U-Mobile.

How its works?

- The simcard need to be inserted inside the Universal Serial Bus (USB) interfaced modem.
- Modem used commonly in Malaysia will be Huawei E220. The service provider Celcom and Maxis are using Huawei E220 by labeling it with their brand.
- The connection can be said as portable as the modem is small and has plug and play function without needed to install any software separately.

Huawei E220 modem support 7.2Mbps and its come with a package which is consists of installation CD, user guide, short and long cable with power assistant usb port.
Furthermore, not all usb modem is supported and installable in linux operating system. This is what goes for BlueCube modem which is official dealer of celcom broadband. While this huawei E220 modem supported by linux.

So in a nutshell, for mobility go for broadband using usb modem and for constant and stable connection go for streamyx.
